Feature Story

We previously wrote about Marine Corps Veteran Mike’s journey as he graduated from Every Third Saturday’s Warriors Path program and sought permanent housing with the help of MACV. We’re excited to share that he’s now part of 23V Recon, a 14-week program by 23rd Veteran that helps Veterans rebuild through outdoor activities and psychological training.

MACV Veteran Story: Mike

MACV Veteran Story: Mike

Mike reached out to MACV for help rebuilding his life from housing insecurity, dealing with past trauma, and dealing with the loss of employment opportunities.

23V Recon is a 14-week reconditioning program for Veterans. 23V begins with a flight to a distant state, followed by 6+ days spent backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, and more outdoor adventures—23rd Veteran partners with top outdoor wellness organizations to foster strong leadership and team-building within the Veteran community. After the trip, Veterans embark on a 13-week journey, meeting 3x per week at a local gym where they receive physical and psychological training. Following each workout is a 30-minute positive psychology session – focusing on mindfulness and effective communication.

Mike shared that this program is helping him work through past trauma and prioritize self-healing and self-care. We are incredibly grateful to 23rd Veteran for providing this life-changing opportunity for Veterans. MACV is honored to refer Veterans to this program as they continue rebuilding their lives.
