Where We Have Been, and Where We Will Go
January 1990
MACV established with financial support from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post and provided housing for four homeless veterans.
July 1993
Building 47 program established at Minneapolis VA Medical Center for 13 homeless Veterans.
November 1993
MACV founded a transitional housing program in VA regional houses with 26 beds.
April 1998
First outreach office in greater Minnesota opened in Duluth, Minnesota.
March 2000
Second outreach office in greater Minnesota opened in Mankato, Minnesota.
April 2000
Received our first Federal Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) grant from the U.S. Department of Labor VETS, launching Employment Services at MACV.
February 2002
Purchased nine homes in the Twin Cities metro area, formerly leased from the VA, in support of MACV's Structured Independent Living (SIL) transitional housing program.
November 2002
Awarded the 2002 Bruce Vento Distinguished Service Award from the National Coalition for the Homeless and the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless.
July 2003
Recognized with the Outstanding Member Award by the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.
November 2004
Featured in the national VFW magazine for our leadership, advocacy, and work on behalf of homeless veterans.
June 2006
Grand opening of MACV's Radichel Townhome Program, which features 11 units of permanent supportive housing for Veterans with disabilities on Mankato's Lake Dorothy.
August 2006
First annual MACV sponsored Metro StandDown held at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
November 2007
New housing initiative planning began for Duluth Veterans’ Place, a co-located transitional and permanent housing property for Veterans at MACV's Duluth office.
June 2008
Chosen as the statewide VFW Commander’s Project.
May 2009
Presented Best Practices Award by Governor’s Council on Faith and Community Service Initiatives.
November 2009
Awarded Outstanding Achievement in Service to Homeless Veterans by the Secretary of Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.
May 2010
Our Metro StandDown saw record numbers with over 730 veterans seeking services from 65 agencies/organizations with the support of over 215 volunteers.
June 2010
Awarded two grants under the U.S. Department of Labor’s (USDOL) Veterans’ Employment and Training Services (VETS) funding program under the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) – a $300,000 metro Urban Grant and a $120,000 Non-Urban Grant.
September 2010
VA Secretary Eric Shinseki and Congressman Tim Walz visited the Mankato Radichel Townhomes.
November 2010
Opened Birmingham Place in Maplewood, the first permanent supportive housing program of its kind in the East metro.
December 2010
Northern regional office moved to a new location co-located with new housing facility Duluth Veterans’ Place.

At MACV, we serve Minnesota Veterans that are homeless or are at risk of being homeless and their families. Our long history in Minnesota advocates our mission to create sustainable opportunities for Veterans across the state. MACV welcomes Veterans, wherever they are on their paths, by honoring the dignity of all those involved.
