Veteran John’s Journey To Home Ownership
We previously wrote about Navy Veteran John’s journey to MACV transitional housing after he arrived in Minnesota on a cold winter night in January. The following day, he could see the Salvation Army from the train station, so he headed that way. It was there at the shelter where he was connected to our MACV outreach team. From the shelter, the outreach team worked with John to find transitional housing.

“I have my own safe place to call home.” -Homeowner Navy Veteran John
John recently achieved a major milestone in his life: purchasing his very first home. As he reflects on the journey that led him to this momentous occasion, he cannot help but express his deep gratitude towards MACV. With the assistance of his MACV case manager, he was able to access his benefits, work on personal growth, and ultimately achieve a level of financial stability that made owning a home possible.
When it came to deciding where to purchase his home, John made a conscious decision to choose a neighborhood that felt safe and one that provided access to valuable resources, such as Every Third Saturday and the VA. As he settles into his new home, he recognizes the importance of having a strong support system and is thankful for the role that MACV played in getting him to where he is now.
“It’s fantastic,” John shared. His excitement is contagious as he talks about his recent accomplishment of buying his first home, and we are very proud of his journey home!
