MACV Veteran Story: John
“Respect people at MACV because this is an incredible opportunity to work with a fantastic organization” -Housed Navy Veteran John
Minnesota has a reputation for helping people; ask Navy Veteran John. According to John, “No other state helps people like Minnesota does” is what he heard while living in the south. After 40 years of challenges and adversities in his life, John knew he wanted to come to Minnesota, but he never expected to find a place to finally call home.
John arrived in Minnesota on a cold winter night in January. The following day he could see the Salvation Army from the train station, so he headed that way. It was there at the shelter where he was connected to our MACV outreach team. From the shelter, the outreach team worked with John to find transitional housing. John remembers during his transition, “all my case managers were so incredible, and I am so thankful!”
“When I was placed in this house, I was almost in tears. I hadn’t had a place to call home in 40 years.” -John
Where John is living now is a transitional home, and his case manager is working hard to find him a permanent place to call home. John’s advice to Veterans who start working with MACV is “Respect people at MACV because this is an incredible opportunity to work with a fantastic organization.”
John is just one of the many Veterans MACV has been able to help because of the support from people like you. Thank you for your support! Your donations and volunteerism allow us to continue our work with Veterans and ensure they have a place to call home.
