MACV Veteran Story: Tootie

Feature Story, Housing

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without MACV.” -Housed Army Veteran Tootie

When Covid hit, Tootie lost her job and, as a result, found herself facing an eviction. Tootie was able to move in with a friend briefly until that apartment unexpectedly had water damage.

Tootie contacted MACV and started working with a MACV case manager to rebuild her life.

MACV was able to find a temporary housing solution for Tootie and work with her to find a long-term affordable housing solution.

At 62, Tootie’s biggest dream is long-term stability. She’s employed full-time and cherishes spending time with her grandkids. With MACV’s help, she has a roof over her head to call home. She continues to work with MACV for continued support as needed.

“MACV worked with me to find an apartment I can afford.” – Tooti

Tootie encourages all Veterans in Minnesota who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to reach out to MACV. “With an organization like MACV, there is no reason for Veterans to be homeless,” she emphasizes.
