National Buffalo Soldier’s Day
Army regiments comprised solely of African American men earned the now legendary nickname of Buffalo Soldiers. The 9th and 10th Cavalry and 24th and 25th Infantry were among the first, assigned as a protective force in the West after the Civil War in 1866.
