A Heartwarming Encounter: Minnesota National Guard Volunteers and MACV Veterans
In a heartwarming display of community and support, the Minnesota Army National Guard and the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) recently united to create a memorable day for a group of Veterans currently residing at Union Gospel Mission (UGM).
“This gathering, sparked by a request from the Minnesota Army National Guard Senior Leadership, highlighted the power of connection, attention, and the simple act of spending time together.” – MACV Outreach Program Manager Christine Bridgeman
The social gathering organized by MACV was a heartwarming affair that saw 15 housed Veterans and 11 National Guard members come together in a show of solidarity and friendship. The day was filled with card games, but the most significant moments came from the good conversations that flowed effortlessly among the attendees. It allowed Veterans to share their stories, experiences, and hopes with the National Guard members, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
The event took place at the UGM Veteran’s transitional housing floor, a beacon of hope for many Veterans striving to regain stability. MACV has dedicated 25 rooms at UGM for Veterans. These rooms are thoughtfully divided between Transitional Housing and Permanent Single-Room Occupancy, catering to the unique needs of the Veterans we serve in Ramsey County.
The success of this gathering between the Minnesota Army National Guard and the veterans housed at UGM is an inspiring model for future volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in volunteering with the Veterans we serve, click here.
