MACV Veteran Story: Eugene

“MACV helped me get back on my feet.” -Housed Navy Veteran Eugene

Eugene began working with MACV through our Justice-Involved Veterans program while preparing for his release from incarceration. With MACV’s support, he had what many don’t when they reenter the community: “When I was released, I had a warm bed, an address, a place to call home—all thanks to MACV.”

That first apartment gave him the space and stability to focus on next steps. He found steady work, started saving, and began to rebuild his life.

Two years later, Eugene is now a proud homeowner.

“The biggest thing was—before MACV, I never saw my military service as meaningful,” he shared. “MACV brought that pride back for me.” He’s now open about his time in the military and encourages other Veterans not to let pride get in the way of asking for help.

“MACV is a partner in a transition,” Eugene said, “but Veterans need to do their part.”
