South Dakota & Minnesota Team Up to Combat Veteran Homelessness

Causes, Feature Story

The Double P Ranch in Clark, South Dakota, hosted its thrilling second annual Cast-N-Blast fundraising event in support of the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) from September 12th to 14th. This incredible event featured the action-packed TNT Fishing Tournament, a one-of-a-kind “Hunt with a General” experience, and an exciting trap shooting contest.

The success of this year’s Cast-N-Blast surpassed all expectations, doubling the amount of funds raised from the previous year and bringing in an impressive $20,000. With this significant contribution, MACV can provide essential housing, services, and critical supplies to homeless Veterans.

“These funds will directly impact the lives of our Veteran clients who experience the highest barriers to long-term housing. They have sacrificed for our nation, and we believe every Veteran deserves a place to call home.” – Jon Lovald MACV Chief Operating Officer

The event kicked off with a delightful dinner and reception attended by 75 people, including Cast-N-Blast patrons, local residents, and MACV leadership. Cyrus Mahmoodi, the Cast-N-Blast organizer and one of Double P’s owners, emphasized the importance of partnerships and coming together in the great outdoors to support our homeless veterans. He stated, “The true power to make a difference is measured by the lives we can impact.”

The TNT fishing tournament was named in honor of two passionate outdoorsmen, Jason “Trimmy” Anderson and Tom Nielsen. In memory of these remarkable individuals, participants enjoyed some friendly competition while casting their lines. The tournament concluded with an awards lunch where participants shared stories and celebrated their achievements.

One of the event’s highlights was the “Shoot with a General” experience, where attendees had the incredible opportunity to team up with decorated military generals to hunt goose and pheasant. This rare and memorable experience allowed attendees to connect with veterans and gain valuable insights into the world of military service. The Cast-N-Blast concluded with an exhilarating trap shooting competition at the Double P Ranch.

The success of the event was not only measured by the fun and camaraderie it fostered but also by its impactful contributions to MACV. The generous support from sponsors like the Sioux Falls Chapter of Delta Waterfowl, participants, and supporters will greatly aid MACV in providing housing, employment, and other essential services to veterans looking to rebuild their lives.
