MACV Veteran Story: Jasmine

MACV kept me from being homeless.” -Housed Army Veteran Jasmine
Jasmine is an Army Veteran who proudly served, including the last seven years as a Military Police officer. Originally from Plymouth, she returned to Minnesota after living in Wisconsin and found herself navigating more challenges than she expected. When she first came back, she sold her car just to cover bills. She didn’t know where to turn or what benefits she qualified for.
“A lot of the benefits I didn’t even know about until I moved to Minnesota,” she said.
Her VA care team connected her to MACV in August. From that point on, everything began to change. Working with the VA, Jasmine qualified for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-VA Supportive Housing. MACV helped Jasmine secure stable, affordable housing in a safe neighborhood. “It was exciting to see this new house for the first time,” she said.
Today, Jasmine is housed and rebuilding her life. She’s working again, saving money, and planning for homeownership. She’s also navigating PTSD—and doing it with more support than she ever thought possible. “MACV kept me from being homeless,” she said.
Now that she’s stable, Jasmine is feeling the impact of the ongoing government shutdown. “This government shutdown is hard on me,” she shared. Even so, she continues to move forward with determination and resilience.
Jasmine is 42, a mom of two adult children, and someone who shows up for others. She’s become a connector in her community, helping other Veterans access the resources she once didn’t know existed. “I want to be a lifeline for other Veterans,” she said. Her advice is simple: “Reach out to everyone. Someone can get you pointed in the right direction.”
Looking back, she’s clear about the role MACV played in her journey. “MACV saves Veterans’ lives,” she said. “They fought for me.”
Today, Jasmine is housed, stable, and committed to giving back—a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a Veteran is met with support, connection, and community.
