MACV Veteran Story: Chris

Housing

“My life has changed 100% because of MACV. A year ago, I wouldn’t have been able to imagine myself where I am now.” -Housed Air Force Veteran Chris

Before moving into his new apartment, Chris lived at MACV’s Building 47, a transitional housing program for Veterans who have completed substance abuse treatment and are looking for additional support in remaining sober before transitioning into long-term housing. While living in building 47, Chris worked closely with his case manager to access benefits and stabilize himself to a point where he was ready to move out and live independently.

Chris is incredibly grateful for MACV. He shared, “Without MACV, I’d be living on the streets and still dependent on substances.” He is also thankful for Wood-N-Hearts, who gave him a beautiful handmade bed set and dresser for his new home.

Chris is returning to school this summer and aspires to work in the cybersecurity industry. All in all, Chris’s story is one of great success and determination. Through his hard work, dedication, and the support of MACV staff and resources, he turned his life around and now looks forward to a brighter future. Thanks to organizations like Wood-N-Hearts, Chris had the furniture he needed for his new home, which allowed him to complete the transition into independent living efficiently. As we look back on this incredible growth journey, let us also look forward with hope toward helping more Veterans like Chris in their pursuit of success. Now more than ever, we must create meaningful change within our Veteran community.
