Handcrafted Furniture Helps Veteran Feel At Home
“I lost everything when my house burned down in November 2021, and now I am rebuilding my life.” -Dan
Dan, an Army Veteran, found himself living in a shelter after his home in North Minneapolis burned down. “Thankfully, I was connected to MACV at the Catholic Charities shelter where I was staying. From there, MACV helped me move into this house and has been working with me to get me more stabilized.”
This month, beautiful handcrafted bedroom sets from our partner and nonprofit organization Wood-N Hearts were donated to MACV, and Dan received one of six.
“Living here makes me feel safe, and this furniture in my room helps me make this house feel like a home” -Dan
Wood-N-Hearts mission is to provide furniture to Veterans who have been displaced and require assistance. Dan is the perfect example of a Veteran who began working with MACV after experiencing homelessness and is navigating services with help from his case manager. Mark and Susan Schuler came to deliver and put together the bedroom set for Dan, and Mark shared that the goal of their nonprofit is to “set these Veterans up for the rest of their lives.”
MACV is proud to have connected Dan with Wood-N-Hearts. We are grateful for their partnership in providing stability and furnishings for Veterans like Dan, who made significant progress this year in finding a home and getting back on his feet. With the continued support of our partners and community, MACV looks forward to helping more Veterans in Minnesota exit homelessness.
