Housing for Heroes: Ribbon Cutting Celebrates New Homes for Minnesota Veterans

Today marks a significant achievement in the fight to end Veteran homelessness in Minnesota. The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV), in partnership with Housing First Minnesota Foundation and Lennar Minnesota, celebrated the completion of three new homes and an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in North Minneapolis. These new homes are part of our Housing for Heroes initiative, which has now built 14 houses that provide essential, stable housing for veterans rebuilding their lives.
On October 22, 2024, the ribbon-cutting event brought together key stakeholders, local officials, and Veteran advocates to honor the collaborative community-driven efforts and public-private partnerships in addressing Veteran homelessness in Minnesota. In addition to providing housing, the initiative incorporates community support, fostering long-term stability for the Veterans housed through MACV.
This event also follows an exciting milestone for Minnesota: just last week, Hennepin County officially declared an effective end to Veteran homelessness. Every Veteran experiencing homelessness in the county now has a clear and timely path to stable housing. MACV is incredibly proud that this partnership with Housing First Minnesota Foundation and Lennar played a crucial role in achieving this goal. These homes in North Minneapolis are vital to that success, offering Veterans a secure place to start a new chapter.
“We are honored to stand alongside Housing First Minnesota Foundation and Lennar to offer these Veterans a place where they can begin their next chapter with dignity and security,” said Jon Lovald, Chief Operating Officer at MACV. “Each of these homes reflects the strength of our community’s commitment to supporting those who have served our country.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from representatives of MACV, Housing First Minnesota Foundation, and Lennar. Together, we celebrated a shared mission to ensure every Veteran has a dignified place to call home. These new homes and ADUs are more than just a milestone—they represent a future filled with promise for the Veterans who will live in them. As we celebrate this success, we remain committed to the ongoing fight to end Veteran homelessness in Minnesota.
