Former Robbinsdale Hotel Transformed to Veterans’ Housing

The Robin Hotel has been a fixture in Robbinsdale for more than 100 years.

It recently got a makeover and is reopening to serve veterans who have been homeless.

Local dignitaries were on-site this week for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its grand reopening.

“When we ask our people to go serve our country, and they come back with some baggage, it is our responsibility to treat them as well as when they were treating us by risking their lives on our behalf,” said Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Lunde.

The hotel was built in 1901, but had fallen into disrepair in recent years.

Hennepin County bought the property in 2022 and transferred ownership to the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV).

After more than a year of construction work, the building now has 14 remodeled housing units for low-income and homeless veterans.

“At a time when VA benefits and the workers who serve our veterans are under attack, I’m honored to work alongside MACV to support those who have served our country selflessly,” said U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, who secured a $750,000 in congressional funding to help make the project a reality.

MACV also offers support services for veterans including employment and legal services.
