MACV Veteran Story: Michael

Feature Story, Housing

“It’s great to have my own place that I can call home.” -Housed National Guard Veteran Michael

After overcoming grief and uncertainty following the loss of his wife, Michael has finally found a sense of belonging in his new environment, just in time for the holidays.

Struggling with the prospect of sleeping in his car, Michael sought help from Carver County and was connected to MACV. With the assistance of his case manager, he was able to find an affordable place to heal and thrive. Thanks to MACV and Bridging, Michael now has furniture, household items, and even a fully decorated Christmas tree with a cherished photo of him and his late wife on top.

Being able to spend the holidays in his home has brought Michael a newfound sense of peace and purpose. He is a lifelong Minnesotan and is so glad to live in a community where he can feel safe and at home. Grateful for this chapter of his life, he plans to learn to cook and stay busy with his job. As he tearfully expresses, “I am incredibly thankful for MACV.” Michael strongly encourages other Veterans in need to reach out and seek assistance from MACV.
