Tun Tavern was a historic tavern and brewery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, established in 1686. It holds a special place in American history as the birthplace of the United States Marine Corps. On November 10, 1775, the Second Continental Congress commissioned the tavern’s owner, Samuel Nicholas, to raise two battalions of Marines, marking the Corps’ founding.
