MACV Employee Spotlight -April Jones

Feature Story, Services and Other

This week, we are featuring April Jones!

At MACV, staff across the state work every day to connect Veterans and their families with stable housing and the support needed to build long-term stability. April is part of that work as a member of MACV’s Housing Stability team, in the southern region, where she helps Veterans who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless navigate housing barriers and build a path toward lasting stability.

In her role, April provides housing stabilization, housing navigation, and supportive services to Veterans. She works alongside Veterans to identify barriers to housing, connect them with community resources, coordinate with landlords and service providers, advocate on their behalf, and develop individualized plans that support long-term housing stability.

“What attracted me to MACV was its commitment to long-term housing stability rather than simply providing temporary solutions. MACV recognizes that sustainable housing often requires ongoing support, case management, advocacy, and strong community partnerships.” – April Jones

April was drawn to this field by her desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives during some of their most challenging times. She says one of the most rewarding parts of her work is helping Veterans overcome barriers, achieve their goals, and create lasting positive change in their lives.

While April did not personally serve in the military, she comes from a long lineage of military service. Several members of her family served in the armed forces, instilling in her a deep respect for Veterans and their sacrifices. Through her work, she has also had the privilege of working closely with Veterans and continues to be inspired by their resilience, perseverance, and strength.

Before joining MACV, April worked in Emergency Assistance at Ramsey County Human Services and later as a Housing Choice Voucher Specialist with St. Paul Public Housing. Those roles provided valuable experience helping individuals and families navigate housing crises, access resources, and secure affordable housing. As a Mankato native with strong community relationships, she brings a deep understanding of local systems and partnerships that help connect Veterans to support more quickly and effectively.

“Veterans are not a one-size-fits-all population. They come from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and generations of service. While some may need short-term assistance following an unexpected hardship, others may require more intensive support to address barriers that have developed over time. What they all deserve is dignity, respect, and the opportunity to access resources that help them regain stability.” -April Jones

April is passionate about helping the community understand that Veteran homelessness is often far more complex than simply not having a place to live. Rising housing costs, health challenges, disabilities, loss of income, family crises, and difficulties transitioning to civilian life can all contribute to housing instability. She believes every Veteran deserves dignity, respect, and access to the resources that help them regain stability.

Outside of work, April enjoys flipping storage units and reselling items, fishing, and traveling. She enjoys the challenge of finding value in overlooked items, spending time outdoors, and exploring new places and communities.

April, we thank you for your service to Minnesota Veterans and our community!
