In honor of Women’s History Month, MACV is excited to highlight the stories of prominent women in military history. Today, we introduce Yzetta L. Nelson.

Hailing from Brooklyn Center, Minn., Nelson is the first of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) to achieve the rank of Command Sergeant Major on March 30, 1968. Even during a time when women’s advancements in the Army were occurring at a quick pace, reaching the rank of Comm. Sgt. Maj. was no easy feat.
