MACV Employee Spotlight – Amanda Hooper

This week, we are featuring Amanda Hooper.
Amanda joined the military in 1999 in the Army Reserve. She was part of a transportation unit. In 2003, Amanda deployed with a Unit out of OHIO 454th. She was a truck driver and, due to her civil job as a paramedic, was then a medic in Iraq. Amanda came from a strong military family with a father who is a Vietnam Veteran and served 26 years in the Navy and a grandfather who was in the Army in WW2, along with many other people in her family.
As a Veteran, Amanda knew she wanted to do something for her community. Upon completing her undergraduate degree in human services, she joined MACV. Then, Amanda worked to finish a Master’s in Military Psychology. Her goal was to keep working with Veteran needs and help the community partners understand what trauma has done to veterans.
“No one wants to be homeless. The barriers that seem to be simple can be mountains for our veterans to overcome. We can only do this work if we work together community, partners, federal and state!” -Amanda Hooper
Currently, Amanda is a Senior Outreach Coordinator at MACV. Amanda finds the ability to give hope when so many doors have been shut to be the most rewarding part of working at MACV.
Outside of work, her family keeps her very busy. Amanda teaches at her local dance studio, where her two daughters are dancers. Additionally, her family enjoys traveling and camping together.
Amanda, thank you for your service to our country and community!
