Arlington House – Veterans Helping Veterans

Housing

Arlington House, a property donated by a fellow homeless service nonprofit in St. Paul, was acquired in September 2022. We anticipate the creation of 12 housing units following extensive renovation of the property, which MACV secured following months of consideration along with other housing-focused nonprofits. The physical location of Arlington House is conducive to using public transportation, has a high walkability score, and boasts other advantages to set its residents up for long-term success and housing stability.

Expanding MACV Permanent Supportive Housing Programs

It is with great enthusiasm we are announcing our expanded permanent supportive housing programs! The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) has thus far purchased and is operating three properties in the Metro Region that function as permanent supportive housing for Veterans with the most significant barriers to traditional housing. With MACV-owned and operated properties in Hennepin and Ramsey County, “we hope to be a positive, shining light in the communities and neighborhoods we are now entering with these new properties,” said MACV Chief Operating Officer Jon Lovald. MACV is opening more doors for Veterans and welcoming them home because the expanded supportive housing at MACV is uniquely Veteran-centered.

All Veterans will be considered at our properties because “we are providing dignified housing solutions for the Veterans we serve at MACV, who otherwise have no place to go,” Sara Riegle, Vice President of Property Management at MACV, explained. Two of these recently purchased properties require renovations to maximize their utility: our Powderhorn property, located in Minneapolis’ Powderhorn neighborhood, and Arlington House, a donated property located in St. Paul. A third property, nicknamed Stryker, has seven 1-bedroom apartments ready for lease starting on August 1, following its purchase in July 2022. The properties will function as apartment-style rental units for Veterans. The Veterans will rent from MACV at a reasonable rate based on the area’s public housing authority standards. At the properties, we will work closely with tenants to ensure their success in supportive housing through case management and on-site services.
