Partner Highlight: Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge

At MACV, we work with every Veteran on their unique journey to housing stability. When recovery is a chosen path to housing stability, we’re proud to offer a connection to Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge (MnTC), one of the state’s largest and most comprehensive substance use treatment providers. With locations across Minnesota, MnTC can offer Veterans a pathway to long-term recovery, healing, and purpose.
“Our partnership with MACV has been instrumental in supporting Veterans transitioning from homelessness. Through this collaboration and others like it, MnTC provides veterans with the resources needed for stable housing, meaningful employment, educational opportunities, and even pathways to homeownership. These partnerships help veterans regain purpose, stability, and a brighter future.” -MnTC
Veterans in MnTC’s programs receive more than treatment—they get time, structure, and community. With options ranging from licensed 90-day care to a 2.5-year full continuum of support, including transitional housing and workforce preparation, MnTC creates space for deep, lasting change. Specialized services for Veterans include peer support groups, VA-approved mental health classes, and dedicated staff who understand the unique challenges of military service.
One Veteran’s Story: Alan Vanhoever
For Alan Vanhoever, this path was life-changing. Once homeless, he initially received housing through a HUD-VASH voucher but struggled with addiction and soon found himself at risk of losing his home again. After a series of events, Alan sought help, choosing MnTC as the place to begin his recovery. Through our program, he worked on his faith and mental and emotional well-being, completing the 13-month program before continuing his journey at our Leadership Institute—a 12-month transitional school with housing.
While at the Leadership Institute, Alan learned how to navigate life’s challenges, manage triggers, and build a supportive community. This experience became the foundation for lasting change. After graduating, he joined MnTC as an employee, where he has worked for the past four years. Now, six years into his recovery, Alan is not alone—many Veterans have followed a similar path, becoming an integral part of the MnTC family and helping others break free from addiction.
