MACV Veteran Story: Angela

“I can’t imagine where I’d be without MACV.” -Housed Army Veteran Angela

After losing her job through no fault of her own, Angela struggled for months to keep up with payments. Eventually, life caught up with her—she was facing eviction with no clear path forward. Then, she found MACV.

Working closely with MACV, Angela secured stable, affordable housing at the newly renovated Arlington House. “It feels like home,” she shared, amazed by the peaceful environment and amenities like the Mikulay Resource Center. Now that she has a safe place to rebuild, Angela is eager to take the next step—working with MACV’s employment team to find a new job and reconnect with the Veteran community.

“The kindness I’ve received at MACV is beyond anything I could have ever imagined.” -Housed Army Veteran Angela

MACV’s assistance aligns with the objectives of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. SSVF offers case management and supportive services to prevent the imminent loss of a Veteran’s home or to rapidly re-house Veterans and their families who are homeless. Services include housing navigation, temporary financial assistance for rent and utilities, and case management to support long-term housing stability.

Reflecting on her journey, Angela spoke about the pride and shame that can accompany an episode of homelessness. Her advice to other Veterans? “Don’t be ashamed to ask for help.”
