MACV Partner Highlight: Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities

The collaboration between Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities (UGMTC) and MACV is crucial in tackling Veteran homelessness in Minnesota. This partnership offers a variety of services and resources, creating pathways to stable housing and self-sufficiency for Veterans.
At the heart of this partnership is the provision of safe housing. Veterans receive secure accommodations, meals, and support throughout their stay, allowing them to focus on rebuilding their lives.
UGMTC offers 25 rooms for the Veterans housing program, with five flex rooms funded by the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) and 20 reserved for transitional and permanent housing. Since early 2024, 20 Veterans have secured stable housing through this program, moving us closer to ending Veteran homelessness in Minnesota.
The Veterans housing program, with its unique approach, not only addresses Veterans’ immediate needs but also paves the way for their long-term stability. With no residency time limit, provided they adhere to program policies, this month-to-month flexibility helps Veterans transition at their own pace, building a foundation for a secure future and a rental history crucial for future housing opportunities.
Collaboration is vital to delivering comprehensive services. Every Tuesday, representatives from the MACV outreach team, MDVA, the VA Mobile Medical Unit, and the Veterans Benefits Association gather at UGMTC to provide services and coordinate support. Veterans are encouraged to access these resources weekly and more frequently if needed.
The Veterans housing program serves as a stepping stone, offering a more stable environment than general shelter beds and preparing Veterans for permanent housing. This stability particularly benefits mental health, providing a secure base to rebuild their lives.
A dedicated Veteran lounge in the Veterans housing program wing of UGMTC fosters community, serving as a social interaction and relaxation hub. Regular meetings enhance this camaraderie, allowing Veterans to form new connections with their peers.
Through this structured approach, UGMTC and MACV ensure Veterans have a secure place to call home and the support needed to transition to long-term stability.
