Army Veteran Finds Confidence & Hope at MACV

Feature Story

“I became aware of long-lost confidence. A welcomed surprise I’d almost considered gone for good. While sharing my journey with a fellow Veteran who’d come for coffee and conversation, I noticed eye contact was easier, my head held a bit higher, and my responses were filled with a smiling hope.” – Army Veteran Dawn Glaze

In November of 2022, MACV first shared a photo of Army Veteran Dawn Glaze on our Facebook page when we moved her out of transitional housing and into her apartment. She describes MACV “as a life support.” before being connected to MACV through Harbor Lights, Dawn lived on the streets.

What stuck out to MACV about Dawn is her determination and continued dedication to serving Veterans. As she shared on WCCO, as a part of our Home for the Holidays campaign in an interview with Reg Chapman, she is currently working with Every Third Saturday, a partner organization assisting Veterans in finding new purpose after military service.

Dawn is dedicated to serving those who served our country, and MACV is dedicated to working alongside Dawn for as long as she needs us. This month, thanks to Apple Valley Auto and a generous foundation that supports Veterans living in Minnesota, MACV was honored to be able to present her with a vehicle. After receiving the vehicle, she shared, “ahead, I will be able to attend volunteer and work functions I would have otherwise declined due to the late hours on public transportation.”

The story of Dawn and her journey is a powerful reminder that the local support we can provide to our Veterans shouldn’t be underestimated. If you have a vehicle you are interested in donating to make a difference in the life of a Veteran like Dawn, click here.
