aboveandbeyond2015 Meet MACV’s Above and Beyond award winners for 2015 – Alex Haider and Cheryl Nordby. Alex and Cheryl accepted the award of behalf of the entire committee that coordinated The Salute to Servicewomen Golf Tournament. The Above and Beyond Award is handed out each year at our annual Benefit Event to volunteers who work to improve the lives of veterans. Alex and Cheryl are pictured here with MACV President/CEO Kathy Vitalis and our featured speaker at the 2015 Benefit Event, Father Michael Lapsley. We thank Alex, Cheryl, and Father Michael for being a part of a great evening for veterans.

 2015 Union Pacific A big thank you to Union Pacific for their continued support. Earlier this month, MACV accepted a donation from the employees of Union Pacific. 



"They've done a lot for our country, and we thought it was our turn to give back to them, especially the ones that can't do it for themselves right now," said 8th grader Camryn Reuter.

We are so grateful to the students at Southland Middle School in Adams for collecting donations for us to give to veterans who are homeless or experiencing another hardship. Thanks to KAAL for recognizing their generosity.

They are given the opportunity to raise the American Flag to the top of the flagpole during the singing of the National Anthem. MACV is proud to share that our own Veterans Court Case Manager Christopher Hinton was the veteran honored at the April 15th game!

Duluth Grille 2015 Tom Hanson (left) and Jaima Hanson (center), owners of the Duluth Grill, located at 118 South 27th Avenue West in Duluth, MN are pictured here donating Duluth Grill gift cards to Steve Saari, (right) Regional Director for the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV). The Hanson family holds a fundraiser at the Duluth Grill each holiday season to benefit homeless veterans living in the region. The Hanson’s match the dollar amount contributed by the Duluth Grill customers during the season. This year the amount donated by customers was $605 with the matched total equaling $1,210! These gift cards will be donated by MACV to veterans and their families who are currently or recently homeless in order to provide them with a warm, nutritious meal. Thank you to the The Duluth Grill for their continued support!

mankatosign2015 In case you missed it - MACV's Mankato office recently moved to their new location: 724 Madison Avenue. The new sign was installed January 13th!


A big thanks to St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church for their continued support. Nick Kakos is shown here presenting their most recent check to MACV CEO, Kathleen Vitalis and Metro Outreach Manager, David Nguyen.


Thank you to the DAV of Minnesota Foundation, along with employees of Share Point and Financial One Credit Unions for collecting 250 winter jackets for MACV to distribute to veterans in need across the state.

So many things to be thankful for this time of year. We'll start by thanking the staff of Fredrikson & Byron P.A. for collecting gifts for eight of our veteran's families (gifts for 35 family members)! We are grateful for their continued support of both our Vetlaw program and our veterans. Twin Cities Public Television produced a documentary showcasing stories of veterans returning home from war. It looks at barriers they faced, how they overcame those barriers, and what they are doing now to help other veterans deal with those same issues. MACV is proud to have five staff members featured in this documentary. It will be airing Sunday, October 19th at 7PM. Watch Crossing the Threshold online.

MACV President/CEO Kathleen Vitalis accepts a $5,000 donation from Cindy Tews, President of the VFW Auxiliary of Minnesota.  The funds will be used to support MACV’s new SIL house for women veterans that opened in December 2012.
