HISTORY of MACV

Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans

January 1992 - MACV established with financial support from local Minnesota VFW post.  Provided housing for four homeless veterans.

July 1993 - Accepted 13 beds at Minneapolis VAMC Building #47 for homeless and chronically mentally ill veterans.

November 1993 - Accepted four VA regional houses with 28 beds.

April 1997 - Groundbreaking for Alliance Apartments - 124 permanent sober housing apartments with 29 designated for homeless veterans.

April 1998 - First greater-Minnesota outreach office opens in Duluth.     

March 2000 - Second greater-Minnesota outreach office opens in Mankato.

April 2000 - Received Homeless Veterans Reintegration grant.

April 2001- Awarded $16.2 million from state bonding package for Veterans and Community Hosing Initiative. Project includes 132 units on the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) Minneapolis campus and 60 units on the St. Cloud VAMC campus. Construction 2005-2006.

February 2002 - Purchased nine homes in Richfield and Minneapolis formerly leased from VA regional office that are used for transitional housing.

November 2002 -National Coalition for the Homeless and the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless awarded MACV the 2002 Bruce Vento Distinguished Service Award.

July 2003 - MACV recognized with Outstanding Member Award by National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.

November 2004 - MACV featured in national VFW magazine for its leadership, advocacy, and work on behalf of homeless veterans.

December 2005 - Groundbreaking held for 11-unit permanent housing complex for disabled veterans on Lake Dorothy in Mankato.

June 2006 - Opens the Paul & Dorothy Radichel Veteran's Town Homes; a permanent housing complex of eleven units in Mankato for disabled veterans.

August 2006 - Host the 2006 Stand Down in Minneapolis.

November 2006 - Host the 2006 Stand Down in Mankato.

December 2006 - MACV receives recognition from the Charities Review Council.
